Live your life out loud - share your journey with others through your words, be they prose or poetry, spoken or written, serious or frivolous ........

Urban Sights and Sounds

written by Beverlee Blampied (c) 2011

As I travel through the streets of town
My eyes are busy looking all around
At the many names and shops and signs
That fill my view - a fact of the times -
Abundance - be it food or books
Grocery stores or fashion nooks
Bakeries, cafes, restaurants and more
Offer myriads of goods, once through each door
Tim Horton’s, Second Cup and Panera Bread
Awake my senses and fill my head
With scents of coffee, cinnamon, and tea
And delicious pastries - so much to see
For lovers of books, Chapters offers the best
And the hunt for an author can be put to the test
The Square One Mall situated nearby
Is a plethora of stores that fashionistas try
Ashley Furniture and Crate and Barrel
Sell furniture and offer decorating ideas as well
Food Basics, Metro and Super Store
Are filled to capacity with foods galore
Shoppers Drug offers a shopper the chance
To find and purchase many items at a glance
Best Buy, The Source and the Apple Store
Sell DVD’s, computers and so much more
And, as I continue my walk I can’t help but see
The Highway and Road Signs in front of me
Traffic enters and exits and travels free
On Highways 10, the 401 and the 403
The swoosh of the trucks and the busses and cars
Fill the air with a multitude of noisy sound
And the busyness of life in the core of the city
Makes the energy of my urban walk abound

Ode to Indian Cooking

By Beverlee Blampied (c) 2011

A culinary treat to me
Is preparing Indian food
As the aromatic spices
Waft in the air and set the mood
The rich colors of all the spices
And the mouth-watering scents as they infuse
Put me in impatient anticipation
Of the diverse culinary landscape from which I can choose
The bottom of the pan is a palette
Of paprika, toasted cumin and mustard seed
Heaped in an array, like powdered paints
Their exotic scents are abundantly freed
Melted Ghee makes lakes and rivers
For pureed garlic and ginger sizzling in the curry dish
Heavily creamed and delicious butter chicken
Sumptuously simmers, and I make a wish
That something magical will begin to happen
And I salivate at the heavenly prospect
Of tasting coriander chutney with puffy Naan bread
And numerous other addictive appetizers that I can select
The ’piece de resistance’, of course
Is the dessert of Mango Coconut Ice Cream
Served with succulent Mango slices and leaves of mint
Most definitely a dessert lover’s dream
A Chai drink of loose tea leaves
Is simmered in Indian sugar and milk
A wonderfully frothy liquid
Feeling as smooth as silk
The exciting flavors of authentic Indian cooking
Are brought to life through creativity and spice blends
And are all the more delectably enjoyable
When the dining is shared with my family and friends

The Street

Written by Beverlee Blampied (c)

If we should meet
Upon the street
Some unexpected day
I'd take your hand
And then we'd stand
Without a word to say
And then my head would clear
And we would stroll along
Forgetting years and bitter tears
And in a little while
I'd see  you smile
And clouds would slip away
If we should meet
Upon the street
Some unexpected day

Peacefulness

Written by Beverlee Blampied (c)

Autumn
With its mood of peacefulness
And solitude
Early morning walks by the river
A pass time supreme
Mist off the water
Keen winds fill the air
With the sounds of trumpets
Graceful trees line distant hills
Earth is drowsy
With a breathless hush
Covered with a chill
A bird stirs
Branches sway
Leaves fall
Only to be stepped on later
By trampling feet
At dawn the world awakens
And I alone am a witness

Pain

Pain
A tiny word
A depth of feeling
An emptiness, a loneliness, a needing
Pain
A tiny word
An endless tear
A longing, a searching, a fear
Pain
A tiny word
A drum that rolls
A memory, a sadness, a lost soul
Pain
A tiny word
A large projection
A lost love, a broken heart, a desperation
