Her footprints along the paths of her life journey have led her to places where she has had to learn hard lessons - the most recent lesson has finally taught her that she need no longer waste time grieving for the people that have chosen, through bad judgement and false reasoning, to leave her life. It is now time to rejoice for those who have chosen to continue to walk with her and share her footprints.....

Finally Freedom

She has, through much suffering and soul searching, learned that family isn't always blood - but is the people in her life who want her in theirs; the people who accept her for who she is; the people who do not judge her; the people who would be there for her through thick or thin; the people who would do anything to see her smile - the people who love her unconditionally. No matter how hard or difficult her life may be, this true 'family' can hold a sacred trust for her, can be her soft place to fall, and can offer her the comfort zone a true family provides.

She no longer needs to live with the door to her heart slightly ajar in the hope that amends will be made by those who have treated her and her loved ones with such hurtful disdain and disrespect. She no longer needs to make any more attempts at reconciliation, verbal or written. She has done her part to repair particular broken ties, and has humbled herself in the process, even in the face of constant rejection by those with whom she has a shared biology.

She has learned that egos, pride, greed, jealousies and misinformed minds mask realities. She has also learned that to continue to put herself in the position of allowing herself to be destroyed by their continual berating and degradation would be enabling them to continue to hurt her and allowing them to continue to wallow in their power trip. By their judgements, forced consequences and despicable actions they have placed her below them, in the position of their enemy. Revenging them would make her even with them, so she will choose instead to forgive them because forgiving them would set her above them and she would finally be out of their reach.

She can now rest in the knowledge that her struggle through their dysfunctional attempt to destroy her, and the life she had worked so hard to obtain, has actually been an opportunity to reach the ultimate, and the darkness of the past years has itself become light.

The lessons learned along the paths of our life journey help us to learn who we really are.....

Being One With Myself

By Beverlee Blampied (c)

Being one with myself
Is sitting in silence
And not minding the silent noise
It is experiencing nostalgia
And reminiscing
Without emotionally reacting
To hurtful and negative memories
It is instant recall photos -
Images fluttering through my mind
Of family and friends
With whom I share my path
It is tea in the morning
The afternoon
And the evening
With rich, flavorful coffee
Anytime in between
It is a messy food-filled kitchen
As I prepare a meal
To be shared with family or friends
It is the aroma of
Yet another tray
Of Peanut Butter cookies
Baking in the oven
Awaiting a visit
With my grandchildren
It is the sharing of laughter
And a midnight snack
With the love of my life
It is letters received
In the mail
And random calls
Just because -
From those I love
Talking for hours
As we share our footprints
It is the smell of books
As I again leaf through
Their annotated pages
It is lit candles
And aromatic plug-ins
Permeating the rooms
In which I exist
It is music
Filling the house with notes
That wash away from my soul
The dust of everyday life
It is cups in the sink
Books on the floor
And an unmade bed
Because I am too busy
Writing my next blog entry
And above all else
It is being comfortable
Knowing that I am
Who and where I am
Because this is exactly
Who and where
I choose to be

When I chose to love myself I chose life.....

Valentine's Day Is Here

Valentine's Day is here - again - another year. Love is in the air. And you can enjoy the day whether you are in a committed relationship, or happily existing with your special someone or living in the single mode. There is nothing holding you back from having a good time on Valentine's Day besides you.

Valentine's Day can be enjoyed by everyone. Yes, it is a hyped as a romantic day filled with gifts of flowers and chocolates (and jewels if you're really lucky!) and for couples it is a day to acknowledge their love for each other. But for those without a partner, it does not need to be looked upon as a romantic holiday but simply as a Love Day - a day in which you can love yourself. It is only one day out of the year and life can be lived as usual even though the hype of the day always stirs up peoples emotions and seems to overpower rational thoughts.  I remember, when walking along some rocky and twisting paths in my life journey, and through my many years of being 'single', deciding not to let the romance of Valentine's Day effect me anymore and when the day arrived I would buy myself a bouquet of flowers (not roses - couldn't afford them!) to remind myself that I should/could/would love myself and did not need anyone else to complete me or define who I was by their degree of love. It was my chance to have a real relationship with myself, everyday. And when I learned to love myself, I eventually attracted love to me.

On this Valentine's Day, February 14, 2014, I want to wish the man in my life a Happy Valentine's Day and thank him for our wonderful life, rich with family and friends, and for being my soul mate as we make footprints together through the senior years of our life journey -  Forever & Always - No matter What!

Through our life journey, our body is our vehicle but our soul is our compass.....

Finding Solace

She stopped and stared in disbelief, again, at the image in her bedroom mirror. She didn't do this often - study her image - as she was uncomfortable with what it represented. There were lines around her eyes now - wrinkles. Her hair had turned silver. And she certainly seemed to have a little more 'fluffiness' about her than she wanted to admit to. She didn't want, or even know how to reconcile the reflection of herself with the younger, more vibrant woman who existed in her mind.

She had difficulty falling asleep that night, restless, ruminating about all the connotations her reflection presented. How and when had this happened and how could she have felt so disconnected about her aging image?  But, in the early hours of the morning she suddenly awoke with the realization that there was a very good reason for this disconnected feeling and it had nothing to do with vanity. It was, instead, a wonderfully liberating reason as she realized that although her face and body were showing more and more signs of age, her soul was not, and if continually nourished, would not. Her soul was ageless and it was what made  her who she was - her essence - and it wouldn't ever get old.  Her body would decline more in time, but her soul would not decline in any way - it was the 'spiritual part of her and would always be as 'alive' as the day she was born.

She realized now that her mirror experience was telling her that the slow decline of her body was actually designed to let it become clearer to her who she intrinsically was - a soul - not just the body in which her soul was clothed.

She still felt much, much younger than the reflection she had studied in the mirror but was now able to reflect that as she had aged she had still been able to receive as much pleasure from songs, scents and wondrous sights and experiences that had entered her soul and enlivened her spirit, as she always had, or perhaps, even more. And, as her body would slowly, dare she think, 'deteriorate' even more, her passion for the warmth of meaningful love and life would not wane at all - it would increase - as her soul was made to become more and more apparent. Through the aging process, she could live from her soul rather than herself and become more in touch with her intuitions and emotions and as she continues to age she can sink more into the earthiness of her identity and become less interested in the surface glitter and enjoy the relief from the mad pulse of life at its prime. The melancholy of aging can make her reflective as she advances in years - but it can give more weight to her thoughts.- and finally she can accept that she is made up of many personalities, youth and age being merely two of them.

We should always keep in mind where our own journey started.....

Random Thoughts

Along the paths I have walked through my life journey I discovered through the trials I faced that the whole is revealed in  the parts - it first took being broken to realize what that whole was.....

We are all inexplicably bound together giving us a secret wealth - the value of which we should never doubt.....

Today - now - this exact moment is the perfect time for me to dream.....

I continually remind myself to not just hope - but to  DECIDE.....

My thoughts continue to paint a portrait on my soul.....

I can only write from my heart to connect  on a deeper level.....

I have finally learned that the trick to connecting is to just always be myself in someone else's living room.....

Our journey through life takes us to places where we can learn that the whole can be revealed in parts - and that it sometimes takes being broken to realize what the whole was.....

No Spaces In Between

She never thought that she would be making a list. At least not one like this one. She looked at what she had written as her page heading - Reasons to Leave - heavily underlined in thick, black ink. This wasn't anything she had envisaged when she had walked down the aisle several years previous, in a historical church nestled on a tree lined street in Old Montreal. She thought then that happiness was hers at last.

The list was her mother-in-law's idea. In time of indecision she would do the same - set out the pros and cons on paper with a line drawn down the middle of the page.

Their home felt empty already. She missed him - she really did. She had grown used to sharing space - life - with him. She had got used to so many 'couple' things and it amazed her how quickly this had happened after years of being alone. They seemed to fit together, tucked inside each other, with no spaces in between. She wasn't certain that she wanted to give all that up now. She knew what life would be like without him. She'd lived that kind of life. Her relationship with him was her biggest life investment so far and it would not be easy to walk away from it. His investments, however, were something else altogether, and the repercussions were only just beginning.

She wondered if her decision to stay or to leave would be easier to make if he had an affair.
Would she stay or walk away then? She thought deeply and decided that she probably would not leave him for an affair, not if it was a one-night stand, a drunken mistake, but if it was a full blown emotional connection she would have to reconsider that choice. There are, after all, degrees of toleration - shades of grey that that would need more examination.

He had meant to pay the money back. He just didn't get the chance. She believed him - she really did. He made a mistake, that's all. He got himself in a mess, gambled, 'borrowed' money from his work and got caught.

Her mother-in-law said it was her choice now - the ball was in her court - but that she shouldn't be swayed by what other people thought or said, and it seemed that everyone had an opinion that they wanted her to listen to, whether she wanted to or not. These other people saw things only in black and white.  But it wasn't as simple as that and perhaps they would have reconsidered their judgements had they known the truth - the whole story. In fact, they might even have done the same thing had they been in his shoes.

She had been seriously ill for months and the closest hospital to their home was over fifty miles away. The return trip to visit with her was an immense strain and an immense expense, yet all the time she was ill, strapped to various machines, fighting for her life, he had arrived every evening, a smile on his face, with flowers, magazines she couldn't read and fruit she couldn't eat. He worked all day then drove the fifty miles to spend a few hours with her before driving all the way back to an empty house - their home.  His companion during his time of stress became the internet and the invisible poker players became his friends.

"For richer, for poorer. In sickness and in health" - the words of their wedding vows rang continually through her thoughts.  Would these vows be enough to allow them to survive this test? She looked around the room and eyed his sweater folded over the back of the sofa where he had left it when the police came. She pondered some more and slowly wrote "I love him and he loves me" on her list and as the words formed on the paper she realized that this was really what it was all about - love. What did the rest matter. It would be different if she didn't love him, or if it was one-sided, but it wasn't. She suddenly knew that it was something she would have to forgive and that they would have to overcome - together.

A shiver ran through her as she stood up, walked to the window and pulled the curtains back. The street was empty. It was dark and still she had not heard from him. It would be a long night she thought, as she settled back into the chair, list on her lap, and tried to add to it. She wondered why it was such a struggle. She stared at the words and realized that it would have been easier if she had titled the page Reasons To Stay.

She continued to sit trance like and didn't hear his key in the door, just the thump of it as he closed the world out. He came into the living room, looking like a shadow, his face pale and stressed. He slumped in the chair opposite her and mumbled that he would have to return to the station in the morning.  She sensed that he was afraid to face her, afraid of the expression that he would see on her face.  She stood, crossed to his chair and leaned in to hug him.

The house suddenly felt full again as she realized that her struggle was over. She didn't need her list after all. She didn't need a reason, not to leave, anyway, and she now knew she had the best reason to stay.  She scrunched the paper in a ball. They would work it out.  Together. Like two spoons in a drawer. No spaces in between.
