The Shore
by Beverlee Blampied (c)
God knows they tried, alone and together
To walk away and not turn back
To mend their lives, get back on track
But no matter whatever the reason
For the passage of time
She knew he'd call, and he knew she'd sigh
Then, without a moment's thought
Plans were made and happiness caught
For again they would share some stolen time
Their minds and bodies seeking the sign
That their love was forever, and even though
They could not change life's course
Their hearts were tied - a powerful force
That would not ever break apart
But when their moments were over
And hurt pulled at their shattered hearts
They asked themselves why
They ever allowed their relationship to start
And so they chose to move on
He, because the fear of lingering
In the moment
Made him want so much more
But he knew he could not give it
And she, because she wanted to be part of
His everyday life - so lingering
In the moment
Would only cause her more strife
So he out of fear
And she out of pain
Whispered their tormented goodbyes
Again and again
They took separate paths
Till their roads would cross once more
Both of them knowing that they would meet again
Someday - on love's rocky shore
