The pathways along my journey through life have often led me to those who have the experience I need to heed.....

Wisdom

A quote I recently read said "Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it."  It made me reflect on my life and situations I had faced along my journey and made me re-acknowledge that life is a great teacher and we never really ever stop learning from our own experiences. I have discovered along the way, too, that the world is full of simply 'wise people' - those who have learned before us.

If I were really clever I would have willed the word of those in my own circle - those who have had particular 'like' experiences, and so would have learned to avoid making the same mistakes through listening to their testimonies. But, unfortunately, it just did not seem to go that way most of the time. My curiosity would often get the best of me and I had to see for myself if, whatever it was, would work out my way - or not - thereby perhaps proving, no matter what,  that experience is the best teacher.

While growing into my adult self, it seemed to be innate to not take people's word for things, to have a burning desire to prove 'them' wrong, especially if 'they' had any authority over me. But then, as I grew, I began to figure out that it might have been a lot better if I had paid attention to the 'teacher' who had "been there", and "done that". Had I chosen to listen, I could have saved myself a lot of time and, sometimes, a lot of grief. But, instead, I tended to linger on a certain kind of pride that battled with having to give in and finally accept that someone else might just be right. It's quite strange, but more often than not, I wanted to be the one that was right - sometimes even when I was wrong!

Wisdom shines its light when we finally realize that we actually don't have all the answers and we do need to pay attention to, and listen to, others. It is great that I can have such a vast array of intelligent and experienced people around me from whom to draw my experience - I just have to be open to listening and then allow the wisdom to seep in.

If our journey along the path we travel seems to be difficult and cold, wrapped only in black and white, we need to choose an alternate path at the crossroads and open up the chance to place our footprints in shades of grey.........

Shades of Grey

Black and white are actually decisive colors that are both interesting and necessary on the creative color and decor charts of my life. But there is truly nothing that brings out the beauty and truth in my life than many shades of grey. There are some things and situations that are definitely black or white, but if I were to paint everything over with just black and white I would lose so many beautiful and amazing details that I would otherwise notice and would otherwise help me have a better perspective, should I add a bit of grey.

It is easy to make that mistake when I judge a situation or attempt to arrive at a crucial decision. I apply the black and white rule only and leave out various shades of grey, and thereby risk missing out on a lot of detail that could make the overall picture much more clear and reliable.

Life, love, relationships, religion - in fact all of my experiences as I travel along my journey through life - encompass many different shades of grey. If I want to be successful in any particular area, I have to look outside the paint can, take a few steps back and study my canvas. If I focus on things with a new perspective, I often find that by adding those shades of grey I will complete my masterpiece, better my life and help myself to grow closer to those with whom I have chosen to share my world.

She is strong; she is invincible; she is woman.....

Sixtysomething

It seemed that she had rached an age where various body parts and internal accessories were starting to show some wear and tear. In her fifties, this was cause for taking offense, as she had been informed on numerous occasions, gently and apologetically, by various members of the medical profession, that  "it's just a part of getting older".  And to add to the indignity, such phrases were usually delivered by those considerably younger than her - although she felt that just about everybody on the planet was younger than her these days - and so she would think to herself..."Just wait, haha, you'll get there too".

Faced with the onward march of time and its effect on her mind and body, she tried to practice what she called constructive denial. Constructive denial, she felt, was different from the basic generic dysfunctional denial, which can impact life in a serious, negative way. But constructive denial could have a positive influence on things, and she liked to practice the simple homily that if you're going to do, or not do, something, one reason was as good as another!

She had no interest in behaving like her sixtysomething age , so she was willing to take some measures to try to avoid actually appearing as the typical grandmother that she (happily and gratefully) was. Occasionally - actually only once - on a good day, a Doctor uttered the phrase "I can't believe that you're sixty-seven years old", and it  made her want to give him a puppy, or at the very least, to take out her voice recorder and get it down on tape, available for playback at critical times in her day.

But something was amiss with her chronological age, an age when most women, if they had been prudent, serenely transition (she loved that word) into retirement. She, although she had kept her mind honed with crossword puzzles, sudoku puzzles and episodes of Jeopardy, had not, unfortunately, been quite so prudent, so her latest foray against the overwhelming downward march of gravity was to practice 'facial yoga'. She had read that this was now the 'cutting edge' but she tended to think that the whole point was that there was no cutting - no muss, no fuss and, as well, no downtime and no unexplained absences from any social activities as there would have been had she chosen the option of cosmetic surgery.  A few twists of the lips, furrows of the brow, and voila, she was done. And not only that, she didn't have to suit up in spandex yoga wear!

She thought that she preferred sixtysomething to fiftysomething. Fiftysomething, to her anyway, just sounded old, tired and washed up on the sandbar of life, without the experience and knowledge to provide that certain character and stature. Sixtysomething, on the other hand, sounded redolent with riveting stories and edgy anecdotes, a state of mind worthy of respect and admiration. And, of course, for all her fiftysomething friends, this was meant in the nicest way possible. She just wanted them to  know that it would be coming for them soon enough and that they should, in the meantime,  enjoy the moment.

Our 'self' is the window through which we see our world as we travel the paths of our life journey.........

A Letter to Self

Written by Bevrlee Blampied (c) 2013

Dear Self:
Remember that you are only human -
You are not perfect and really, if you were
How absolutely difficult that would be
Along your life journey you must remember
That you are not defined by your imperfections
You are not ruled and controlled -
Merely challenged - don't you see?
Think of it this way -
You now have a chance to be better than you were
A chance to understand more about yourself
And that the people around you -
The world as a whole
Will also, at various times, go astray
Lighten up, self - you're not all that bad
You're actually really quite good
You've made mistakes taken wrong turns
But have done your best to move on -
As you should - just know
That there will always be some crisis
Something you'll have to continually keep in mind
Something fundamental and something so true
A wake-up push that you'll have to search to find
So continue to face your adjustments and challenges
Don't live in fairy tale dreams -
Life is never going to be perfect
But will always be full of changing
And sometimes painful, themes
Listen to your heart
And in that very process
Don't allow outside forces
To determine how you feel
For feelings are never good, bad, right, or wrong
They just are - and yours, for you, are real
Remember that you have choices
And thoughts to form and you don't have to
Choose depression over joy or anger over 'forgiveness'
Or always see darkness in the impending storm
More importantly see your glass as half full
Not half empty
And use life's challenges to discover who you really are
Realize that events in our lives happen In a sequence of time
So tap into all of your resources and follow your own, very individual star
Lastly - if you look at the negatives in your past for insight
You can start to think of your future as a promising mass
And you can let your present form in a new, bright light
And be able to smile and knowingly say
That the bad times, too, shall pass.

As we walk our paths we will encounter many storms but there is always some way to travel through the eye of the storm and see that we can find something of beauty on the other side of the blizzard......

Winter Storm

Written by Beverlee Blampied (c) 2013

Winter's fury now is seen
The air is cold and fresh and clean
The wind does howl, the bushes shiver
The trees do scowl and the branches quiver
The snow beats down on everything
No-one is out and no birds sing
We hibernate and hunker down
And wait for the sun to remove our frown
And when it does we shovel and clear a path
And as Mother Nature gets done her wrath
The plows come through, all loud and rough
To move the snow into piles of fluff
The storm is done and life resumes
And we'll think again of Spring and its bright blooms
But for now, from this winter storm the winds have fanned
And we've been left amidst a Winter Wonderland

We can't buy love, but we can pay heavily for it.....

Words Best Left Unspoken

Love is everything. Love is nothing. Love is the light that shines from every recess of your heart, or it is the darkness that distinguishes that light. Love is a mended heart. Love is a broken heart. Love is passion. Love is lust. Love is desire. Love is family, friendship, and romance. Love is everywhere. Love is nowhere. Love is pain, sorrow, longing and suffering. Love is joy and happiness, pleasure and delight. Love is tears in the middle of the night. Love is arms wrapped around you, keeping you safe. Love is holding hands. Love is a smile. Love is the shine in one's eyes. Love is kind.  Love is cruel.  Love is unfair. Love is red roses, sky's of deep blue, rustling breezes all around. Love is sunshine. Love is virtue. Love is forbidden. Love is encouraged. Love is sought after. Love is lost. Love is what comes to you when you open your heart. Love is what made you close it in the first place. Love is a mother's hand stroking her child. Love is a lovers hand stroking his partner's face. Love is the cold when that partner is no longer there. Love is sacrifice, compromise, understanding. Love is valuing someone else's life over your own. Love is a fairy tale. Love is a nightmare. Love is stupid and foolish. Love is wise. Love is a memory of better times. Love is the desire to make more memories. Love is confusing. Love is crystal clear. Love is beyond death. Love is beyond everything. Love is loyalty. Love is trust. Love is free. Love always comes with a price attached. Love is forever. Love is fleeting. Love is the truest form of magic there is.

LOVE SIMPLY IS - OR SIMPLY ISN'T.........

My life journey has provided me the paths on which I can choose to travel, to learn, and to grow................

More Random Thoughts And Reflections

A forced kindness done toward me, or by me, does not deserve any thanks.

Every day I am forging more footprints along my life journey and expanding my limits.

True humor, for me, doesn't put another down, or mock another, or reek of sarcasm - true humor is sincere fun and has within it an understanding that I can laugh together with others, and at myself.

The first step in any of my relationships is to be honest.

To be creative, my imagination is more important than knowledge.

I have learned that it is important to let my intuition guide me .

I am trying to fill my days with words that live and give life.

I need love and kind words in my life more than I need money or material things.

I always try to put deep meaning into my every word, my every action and my every thought.

I will not let what I have done, that has been perceived by others as wrong, be the final measure of who I am.
